Who We Are

Disciple Respite Unlimited is a 501c3 non-profit whose primary focus is to serve the needs of those in ministry. We at Disciple Respite Unlimited know that even those in ministry need a little support to continue to change the world. Founded in 2021 with the core of our efforts being to serve those who serve the kingdom of our Lord Jesus Christ. Those who are full time missionaries are our primary target for the respite we offer.

What We Believe

We believe in the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The three in one and that Jesus suffered the cross in order to carry our sickness, burdens and sins, to atone for our shortcomings because without it, none of us would qualify.

Kathy and Dane Young 1st trip to Caye Caulker in 2013

Get to Know Us

We are Kathy and Dane Young, the founders of Disciple Respite Unlimited. In 2013 Kathy and Dane Young were living in Fort Worth, Texas.  We were invited to Belize by the associate pastor Omar Reyes and his brother of Northwood Church in Keller, Texas. During this trip we stayed on the small island of Caye Caulker.  While there we fell in love with the people and the culture of Belize.  Everywhere we turned we found opportunities to share Jesus. For the first time ever, we visited somewhere new and did not want to return home. Following this trip, Dane and Kathy began to consider serving in Belize, as we felt God had a plan for us there.

The Vision

The vison God gave us was to build a house and part of it would be an apartment where we would offer short-term respite to full-time missionaries as God brought them to us. God’s vision was for us to build a two-story house.  The top story was for our living quarters as we would live in Belize full-time.  In the lower story we were to create an apartment with a small kitchen and a bathroom that could comfortably sleep 4-6 people. We would focus on Central American and South American missionaries, offering them free respite for a few days to a week. This would give the missionaries a chance to refocus and feed their souls.  We were to provide food and housing at no cost to them and create an inviting environment where they can relax and focus on their needs.

Locally

Aside from the vison God gave us for Disciple Respite Unlimited, He led us to join a local church on Caye Caulker where we have been blessed to come alongside of other missionary groups bringing children’s camps to the island kids. These missionary groups we have worked with this for have been from Texas, Arkansas, South Carolina and Georgia. We have had many kingdom-focused opportunities to share locally the truth of Jesus to people from all over the world, not just locals but tourists as well.  In addition to serving in the local church when needed, Dane started a men’s group and Kathy started a women’s group on the island that meets weekly.  God has opened the door to share and witness to many of the people on the island and it has been beautiful!

BUILDING THE VISION

Our original plan was to start the building process immediately, but due to Covid, Belize was completely shut down from the rest of the world.  The airport and the land borders closed for nearly a year.  Father was going to have to end the shutdown in Belize in order for us to move forward with our God given vision.  As always, His timing, not ours.  Finally, the Covid ban was lifted off of Belize in 2021 and we were able to start “building” the vision.  Early in 2021, we made a few trips to the island to meet with contractors.  In late July of that year, we started the build by creating a border around our property.  In August we began to build the house and the apartment under it.  In September of 2021, we moved to Belize.  We then rented a small home in the Village to move into, while the house was being built.  The following August of 2022 our living quarters on the top story were completed and we moved in.

WHERE YOU COME IN

The unfortunate part of this story is that due to Covid, building costs had doubled.  In addition, the area where we built was slated to receive power and water access before we would be done with the home.  That did not happen.  We were fortunate that the finances God provided was enough to get our initial house completed.  We added solar for power and are catching rainwater for bathing, toilets, etc.  A whole new type of provision form God, but he has provided well.  We mention this part of our story because due to the higher cost of building and the cost of the solar, we did not have enough funds to finish the apartment on the lower floor.  The apartment has been walled in, including a bathroom, windows, doors as well as all the electrical and plumbing are in place.  It just needs finish-out and furnishings.

Up to this point we have used solely our own personal funds and they have been exhausted due to the increases in costs we incurred.  This is where Disciple Respite, the 501(c)(3) comes into play.  We need the help of the Father and His faithful and giving people to provide the funds needed to complete the vision.

Through the donations from the non-profit, we can continue to complete the vision Father gave us.  That will be completed in multiple phases.  The cost estimates indicate what is needed and where your donations will go.

DONATE This will take you to the donate page.

What a blessing it will be to offer God’s soldiers on the front lines such a place to refuel from life as a missionary.  Located on an island, the missionaries would have access to peaceful down time enjoying sunsets and sunrises overlooking the Caribbean Ocean. For the more adventurous, there is fishing, diving, and snorkeling available as well as sunset dinner cruises or massages.

This is how far we have come up to this point.  We are so excited to move forward and to have you as part of our story while we carry out the vision Father has given us.

GOD BLESS!

Sashi Taylor

Coming from a Hinduism, on March 28, 2004, I gave my life to Jesus Christ. I had a radical transformation to where I could not put the Bible down for a second that I would spend all day reading it.

I met Kathy and Dane several years ago while working alongside Kathy in the financial industry. Holy Spirit led me to speak to her. We quickly realized we both were passionate about the Kingdom of God.  When they shared what Father was asking them to do I knew that I would be involved on some level.

Favorite scripture: Galatians 2:20, NIV

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
